I have a number of GIF and PNG images that I would like to convert to ICO
icon files. Can Corel Photopaint do this?

I couldn't find that file type in PP, but you can import your images in DRAW
and then export them to ICO

Thanks!

I would have expected PP to deal with ICO as well.

Both Draw and Paint can create the basis for .ico and/or .cur files.
There are a number of free sources of information on the exact file
formats and restrictions. Paint 12 has info in help on the types of
.cur files it can create for older Windows versions.

If you are looking to create favicon files, those are just bmp format
that you can rename to .ico and use. If you are looking to create the
XP style icons, your best bet is to use Draw/Paint for the images, then
use a freeware or shareware specialised icon utility such as IconForge
or the MicroAngelo suite. If you are attempting to edit existing icons
in application files, use MicroAngelo and a safe copy of the app.

No, but you can find a number of free .ico editors here:
http://www.thefreecountry.com/programming/resourceeditors.shtml

There are also some you can pay for. Google for ico editors

I did this a while back and used a shareware/freeware application called
Iconforge. I've switched computers since then, and no longer have it, but
try Google.
